Why Chatbooks Rock

Starting over the summer, my office schedule changed so that I could spend 1-2 days a week at home with the kids, and only 3-4 days a week in the office. So today was a nice break from the usual busyness, with an easy 2 mile run on the basement treadmill.

Our latest Chatbook arrived! We are obsessed. I have these photo books that I get once a month and they have 60 pictures per book, sized at 6 inches by 6 inches. I have the app on my phone and my account is connected to my private Instagram account, where I post knowing that the images and captions will end up in our photo books (I can edit them but I rarely do; instead I let them automatically populate and get sent to me with zero work on my part). I started using Instagram in 2010, so to have all of our memories from the last 7 years printed in these books is seriously one of the best things I have ever done. I can go back to exact days to remember who/what/when, and I swear the kids’ memories are more vivid because they look through the books and remember regularly the trips and parties and places we’ve been. The books are $8 each. If you want to try a book for FREE, use my link right here. I promise you will not regret it!! You can also connect it to your Favorites album on your iPhone (I’ve read about it but never tried this method because I prefer Instagram).

The kids watched Moana while I made lunch and cookies. We had some baseball teammates picking up and dropping things off throughout the day, so I made a point to clean and pick up around the house. Even if there is little chance that someone who is coming by is actually going to set foot in the house, I still use it as motivation to do a whirlwind cleanup. Deadlines (even imaginary ones) are good for me!

Sophie had dance, and they were doing Ballet Olympics. They awarded her with this massive trophy! (Boston couldn’t believe it was bigger than his baseball trophy!) She wasn’t sure why she received it – I think for some kind of leap with her left foot – but she sure was beaming when she was holding it! So so so cute.

  • Does anyone use Chatbooks? If not, do you have photo books and/or do you print your pictures frequently? I joke with Brian that my Chatbooks serve as my memory! Because of them I can remember details (like the fact that Boston’s first soccer practice was the day before St. Patrick’s Day 2015, and we found out Lincoln was a boy the next day).
  • Have you seen Moana?? I honestly think it was my favorite Disney movie yet. A strong female heroine, no need for a love interest, no tragic parent death, ultimately Moana’s compassion, determination, and tenacity saved the day. Trying not to spoil here: but the scene when she sings as she approaches Te’Ka is one of the most powerful moments I’ve seen in any animated movie. The underlying themes in that song will stay with me for a very long time.

Hi Lisa, I had never heard of Chatbooks before. I’m not sure we have that or anything similar here in Norway. I used to print out our photos and I would scrapbook them. But I don’t do that anymore. We do print out our family vacation photos everyone makes with their phones and we make a big collage out of it. We have several hanging in our hallway. I love looking at them.

And I have to go and watch that movie now…you made me curious 😉
